About me
Hi! I'm Imogen, a young artist based in Sussex using traditional media to express a love of nature. I have been painting since childhood which captured my love of flowers especially. Since then I have expanded to landscapes and buildings, using my watercolours and oil paints to capture on canvas what I capture in my imagination.
My inspiration comes from the flowers I see every day outside. I loved seeing them as a window into nature while being in the city. Since collecting a vast album of photos from my travels, my landscapes have gained inspiration from all over the world. These range from the Sussex Downs, to the mountains of Italy, and even to the beaches of the Galapagos!
As a child, I regularly practised watercolours with the help of my grandmother. These wonderful memories, and being surrounded by family artworks, have motivated my creativity. I later picked up oil painting in January 2019 and loved it immediately. Building on these skills I have developed a greater self taught style.
I am currently working for a degree in history and philosophy and developing my photorealistic style. While studying for my degree, I have been exhibited in the Sussex Together festival (November 2020). I was also part of the Pier Road Coffee and Art Gallery Beach Road Competition (April 2021), in the judged category of which I won with my painting 'Peaceful Sheep'. My painting 'As the Cliffs Fall' was also highly commended. I entered the Beach Road competition again (August 2021) and won with 'Sunset Roses'. This and a couple of other paintings are still available at the gallery.
